Nice one!
It reminded me that a few years ago for some mobile project I had to implement the very alike styled toggle button as IOS had. Here it is:

Instead of appearance: none I had to use common hack those days just moving element out of the screen.
example, your example solves the problem of cross-browser compatibility, which is a disadvantage of my Toggle Button.

The Toggle Button on CSS
