Open Source developer's life in GIFs

Sberbank is the largest bank in Russia and Eastern Europe. Our team in Sbertech teaches Sberbank efficient work with Free & Open Source Software. You can read more about this on Habr (what we exactly do, yet in Russian).

One of the main challenges is to open the mind of managers and engineers for using FOSS (Free & Open Source Software) properly. Because we have a lot of them, we have tried to use GIFs for answer the most common questions.

Immediately after understanding the limitation of liability our managers begin to suspect that they are invited to the troupe of some infernal mindless freakshow:

image

«Wait, we are efficient managers and we can help them to develop this product much better» they think, but…

Further immersion usually happens with lawyers and concerns legal issues. And we are happy if the lawyers aprove projects, which are distributed under such licenses as “THE BEER-WARE LICENSE”. Of course, it requires a little budget for IP clearance…

After getting deeper in the FOSS with its weird stuffs, somebody is going to build his own theme park with blackjack and hookers (contributors)

image

or going to buy a vendor release! This is a much better idea of course…

image

and finally wouldn’t touch FOSS even with a ten-foot pole

image

But we can not allow our bosses to make the biggest mistake of their life

image

But sometimes it seems that the idea with a fork is correct.
Almost every time after weeks of discussions, rework and discussions again…

image

discussions and rework, rework and discussions again

image

and again

But when a public API changes — we are #1

image

We also prove everyday that working outside the office is more effective

image

or review legal issues with our legal department

image

and prove that work outside the office is more effective

image

and then again prove…

image

But of course we should thank our colleagues for the fact that they did not interfere with our work.
And for letting us to make Free & Open Source in enterprise real

image

Separately, we would like to thank one large Corporation from Redmond for buying Github…

But you do invest a lot in Open Source.

We would like to thank Anton Churaev, Open Source leader in Sberbank and Sbertech, for his assistance in this article's preparation. He gave us a lot of GIFs and ideas. You can read more about Open Source in Sberbank here (in Russian).
